Martin had been sexually abusing Turtle for quite some time. It isn't until Turtle meets Jacob that he starts to physically abuse her. One night after Cayenne showed up Turtle was waiting for Martin to come to her. When he doesn't she realizes he went for Cayenne instead. Turtle works up her courage to enter his room with her rifle. Which starts a horrifically brutal battle that ends up at Jacob's house. Martin shoots things up and shoots Turtle multiple times. She leads him out to the ocean where she shoots and then stabs him to death. Turtle ends up going to live with her school counselor, Anna, where she deals with the physical and emotional fallout from the final battle.
