Marin's best friend, Sal, was also JR. He had been involved with McKenzie for seven years since she was a teenager. He plotted the whole thing with McKenzie and Derek but didn't tell McKenzie his plans or that he sent Derek a ransom text. He also set Marin up with Julian, because he thought she would have Derek killed, freeing her up to be with him.
Sal also staged Sebastian's kidnapping and sent the ransom note to Derek to help his mother get out of debt.
Sebastian was found alive at Sal's family farm. Hidden away in the wine cellar.
Sal killed himself.
Marin gave McKenzie $250,000 to ease her guilt for trying to have her killed.
