Nina had a bad habit of blacking out and doing very bad things. She blacked out and killed her father. Maggie assumed it was because her father was abusing, Nina, but really it was because she overheard him speaking to a mistress. He was going to leave them.
Nina also killed the pregnant girlfriend of her boyfriend. He was convicted of her murder and died in prison.
She also nearly killed Dylan, but instead she locked him in the basement, so that he would never leave her.
Maggie started the fire in the house, wanting to kill herself. She did not know that Dylan survived Nina's attack. The fire killed both Maggie and Dylan.
