SPOILERS for THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT by Chris Bohjalian
First of all, Alex was killed by Elena, a Russian spy. Elena didn't kill Cassie, too, because she knew that Cassie was a drunk and not likely to be a threat to her. But, also because she was a double agent and not keen on killing an innocent American citizen. However, her Russian boss was not thrilled with leaving a witness and ordered her to kill Cassie. But, the Russians figured out that Elena was a double agent and sent someone to kill both Elena and Cassie. The "someone" was Buckley, one of the several men that Cassie had slept with in the book. Cassie and her Italian lover, Enrico ended up getting the drop on Buckley and survived his attack. Elena did not get so lucky.
It was also revealed through copies of the FBI interview notes that Cassie's friend, Meghan WAS selling secrets to the Russians.
And in the end, Cassie became sober, gave birth to a little girl that was fathered by Alex. AND became a mole for the US Government. Only working when they needed a "spy" on international flights.

Thank you, Charlotte! It's so hard to find out if what you think happened did.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone tell me how Elena was tracking Cassie? I don’t remember reading that a “bug” was planted on her.
ReplyDeleteI want to know that too! I even tried to scan back to find out!
Deleteshe tracked her on her cell phone. There's a device that you can see where a person is going. I know someone who did this because he wanted to keep tabs on his girlfriend.
DeleteWorst book ever. So repetitive and slow.
ReplyDeleteThere's worse
DeleteThe link for the full review does not work! This ending was so confusing! Who did Buckley work for!
ReplyDeleteRussians
DeleteWhat happened to enrico?
ReplyDeleteEnrico survived Buckley's attack. We don't know what happened after Cassie gets on a plane to Moscow. I assumed he went back to being a bartender.
DeleteThis book was so confusing! I have a bunch of questions:
ReplyDelete1. Why did Cassie let Buckley live since Buckley was the bad guy and he was trying to kill her and Enrico (and Buckley would have killed Enrico if Cassie had loaded the gun correctly).
2. What happened to Enrico?
3. So Enrico was just a dumb guy who would steal his uncle's gun and put himself in danger for a girl he only knew for one night? That part was hard to believe.
4. Did the fact that Meghan (Cassie's flight attendant friend) was a spy have anything to do with Cassie's story or was it just a coincidence?
5. Did Alex target Cassie when they first met on the airplane because of Cassie's brother-in-law's job with chemical weapons or was it just a one night fling? Thanks!
