The supernatural element to The Hush is going to be hard to explain. Aina had a stone that essentially gave eternal life to whoever was in possession of it. What it boils down to is that John Merrimon and his wife, Marion were still alive. 170 years later and living in a cave. John was at the root of all of the events that had taken place in The Hush (at least that is how I interpreted it) but after of living more than a century with his comatose wife he was ready to die and pleaded with Johnny to take his place. Johnny refused and watched them both die, giving the stone to Cree, but after asking her to do good with it instead of evil.
Oh and Jack quit the big law firm and sued the county for wrongful imprisonment, setting Johnny up for life.
