Xander was physically abusive towards Joy. She finally had had enough and was going to serve him with divorce papers, but not before he abused her one more time. Her neighbors, Carlotta and Emil, came to the house to distract Xander so that Luna could drive Joy to the women's shelter. Emil was trying to subdue Xander and ended up killing him. He drove Xander's body into the tree in the forest.
Benny and Joy ended up together. They signed their mega deal, wrote a book, and presumably lived happily ever after.
