This book was fantastic, and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
It turns out that the Prince was a horrible predator and left a wake of abused girls in his path. Including his own sister, who got pregnant after his abuse. The queen was trying to rush his marriage to a woman who resembled his sister, so they could pass the baby off as theirs. That woman was Elin. Her stepmother, Ethel, was trying to hold everything together, and when the Prince took off with Elin, she went after them with the help of his guy, Otto.
The Prince returned to Ethel's crumbling home to exact his revenge. He was strangling Ethel when Elin struck him with debris from the collapsed roof, killing him.
The book ends with four strong women surviving and thriving without needing to marry a man to save them.
