Violet really killed Gabe.
She then called Celeste, who got Oleg to help her stage the scene. Oleg's cousin found Nat at the bar and drugged her. Celeste got a friend at the crime lab to put the wrong information on the report. Essentially framing Nat for the murder.
Nat doesn't remember a thing, because she was drugged, but she agreed to a plea deal.
Celeste showed up for the victim impact statement and said that Gabe was a sociopath, so Nat got off with probation.
