The big secret is that Josephine did leave behind an heir. It turns out that Brooke's grandmother had a child with Josephine's brother before he went off to die in World War II -- Brooke's mother.
I think it was disgusting to have Brooke, late 20's, early 30's, date a 63-yr-old man. Gross!
