Ted Cartwright arranged to have Liza/Celia's father killed, freeing up her mother. Ted also had the real estate agent and the groundskeeper killed. Zach had been bribing Ted and Ted killed him, too.
Alex Nolan married Celia to get to the fortune that she inherited from her first husband. He was really a scam artist and tried to kill Celia and Jack to get the fortune. He also knew that she was Liza, which is why he bought her the house.
