The biggest revelation was that it was Allie's dad who had buried the gun, to prevent Allie's mother from using it. It was her dad that loaded the gun with that single bullet. And apparently, Allie had been there and saw her father load it. She knew there was a bullet in the gun.
Julian was a psychopath who had killed David on the anniversary. He also killed Sasha but made it look like an overdose. He also killed his father and his father's "fixer." He was going to kill Allie, but she got away. And her husband had followed her there and ended up saving her.
They reconciled and lived happily-ever-after.
