William's brother, Bentley, was the serial killer. He "captured" Hannah and had sex with her, before William saves the day. Instead of turning him in to the police, William told Bentley to leave the country.
William broke up with Hannah because he found her notebook full of research.
What shocked me the most was that the author revealed that Hannah was pregnant. And she didn't know who was the father.
