This was a weird one that terrified me more than I care to admit.
Dean was part of a secret, historic coven that targeted Penny as the "vessel" for their demon leader. The demon currently resides in a black cat named Godfrey. A demonic black cat that was, frankly, terrifying.
The whole demonic, possessed-cat thing was just a theory as Penny spiraled out of control. When the author confirmed it, I lost me. It felt rushed and, well, bad.
Penny's friends tracked her to the mansion, and at the altar, she was about to let Godfrey possess her when Popcorn appeared as a sacrifice. Penny snaps out of it as the demon leaves Godfrey's body, and the demon-free Godfrey kills it.
Dean and his weird friends all disintegrate and are never heard from again.
Penny ends up with Greg.
