This book had more twists and turns than anything I have read this year.
Anton Smythe showed up at Jack Millman's apartment because Jack had video footage of Anton's son, Quinn, killing the son of Jack's friend. Jack had been telling Quinn he needed to come clean, and if he didn't, Jack was going to the police.
Leila got him acquitted.
The woman who was with Jack? It was Leila Reynolds. She was using her Friday night visits to her mother-in-law to cover her affair. But no worries, because her husband, Julian, was having an affair with Chester Verne's wife. In fact, it was Julian who got her pregnant.
In another twist, Chester's daughter had gone to boarding school with Leila and it was Leila who caused Chester's divorce from his first wife.
Who really killed Antone Smythe? It was Leila. She hit him over the head with the kettleball because he was threatening to tell Julian.
It was Chester's daughter, Elise, who was stalking Leila. She was angry that Leila broke up her parents' marriage. She was threatening to expose the fact that Leila started the fire that killed her father. Leila killed her to retrieve Jack's phone and protect her secret.
Leila is arrested at the airport and put on trial for Antone Smythe's murder. The book ends as the jury returns, leaving it up to the reader to determine whether she was found innocent or guilty.
