Mason Hill was a monster. He would take young girls who looked like his late wife. He kept them in an underground bunker. Unfortunately, his daughter Emily also looked like his late wife. She discovered what he was doing the night of the dance and she walked home.
Melinda Hill, the politician, discovered what her father was doing and drugged him, forcing his heart attack. "Stranger" was really Audrey's friend Janey. The Hill siblings found her weeks after their father died, but they hadn't released her. There was a confrontation one night and Stranger killed Emily. Rather than call the police and turning Stranger in, an act that would expose their father, Melinda convinced her brothers to let Stranger replace Emily. They looked similar enough, with some plastic surgery they could pull it off.
Audrey discovered the truth when she went to Emily's studio and found her journal. (This is where it gets weird) - They end up at the family farm looking for the young student who has been missing. Apparently Emily/Stranger was going to try and help her get a new life. But the Hill brother, Andrew, was going to stop her from leaving and expose the family.
Melinda ends up dead. Barry, Audrey's dog, attacked Andrew and kept him from killing Audrey. "Stranger" and the young lady both escaped to a new life.
