Ryland Grace ended up turning around to save Rocky. He went back to Erid with Rocky where they treated him like a hero. The astronomers on Erid told Ryland that they detected the Earth's sun was restored to full strength. The book ended with Ryland teaching young Eridians and questioning whether he would ever return to Earth.
