Eloise did not die on 9/11. She had been battling postpartum psychosis and ran away to keep herself from harming Molly. Her best friend, Evie, had told Adam that Eloise had tried to drown Molly. But she lied. She knew that Eloise was spiraling and couldn't get Adam to take it seriously enough to get her help.
Eloise watched their life from afar. When she learned that Molly was pregnant, she knew she wanted to be close to watch for signs of the psychosis in her daughter.
Jesse pieced together Evie's lie. Evie and Adam's marriage did not survive the lie.
Georgia did not die from the car accident in New York City. The book ended with Molly telling the reader that she was pregnant again.
