Caroline and Jonas faked their deaths in jail. They went to the house to retrieve money so they could run away. But Caroline found Archie killing Molly. He was the Night Reaper. Jonas killed Archie and buried their bodies in the backyard, assumed new identities, and moved away for twenty-five years.
In the present day, Julia learned that Ethel was not really Ethel. But Celia assumed Ethel's identity after smothering her after childbirth. Mick was really Ethel/Celia's love, and he was the one behind the "hauntings." From stopping the clock to hanging the noose, they tried to drive Julia away. Celia shot Mick, killing him. Gram killed Celia by hitting her over the head with the shovel.
Julia's family sold the house to the museum, but she got a job as a curator. The sale of the house gave them enough money for a good care facility for Gram.
