Jill and Ted are deeply unlikable characters. Nadia, the housekeeper, had a son with sketchy friends. He stole her key and placed the cameras, unaware of what they would capture.
Jill and Ted decided not to pay off their blackmailer. They still believed it was Mon and never learned the truth. They consulted a lawyer who told them that the cameras were placed illegally, so not admissible in court. The police couldn't do anything if they became public. And they did become public, making them despised by everybody.
They learned from Min that Greg had cancer and was going to die in six months anyway. Ted and Jill became deeply and irrevocably unhappy because of their actions and everything that happened after.
