It was Jarod Reyes, the Hastings cop, who has stalked and kidnapped Molly. He was trying to find a mother for his nine-year-old daughter, Alice.
It was really Nicole, Molly's daughter, that he was trying to lure. Because she was so similar in appearance to Alice's mother.
The biggest shocker of the book was that Alice's mother wasn't dead. She just didn't want anything to do with Reyes or her daughter. She was running scams with her new boyfriend.
