SPOILERS for The Chain by Adrian McKinty

The minute the author introduced new characters, I figured it out.  Marty's new girlfriend, Ginger, was one of the twins who created The Chain.  Yes, the FBI agent was the crazy mastermind behind this horrific situation. 

Rachel and Pete ended up getting together. She might even be pregnant.
