The following post contains spoilers, proceed with caution.
Noah's mother had Huntington's disease, and he found out that he had it as well early in his relationship with AJ. It was when he ghosted her early on. There was a lot of "will they/won't they" throughout the years. Noah kept his distance because of his disease.
AJ showed up when his aunt died and pretty much didn't leave. But when she caught Noah in a moment of self-pity, he tried to exile her. She instead convinced him that they needed to honor his aunt's final request. And on the last night of their broadway improve, he finally admitted that he couldn't live without her. For however long he had left.
The fandom at the center of this book was a little too nerdy even for me, and I almost DNF'd it many times. The Huntington's disease was a twist I wasn't expecting, and I stuck with it to see how it would play out, but even then, this book felt too long.
