Nellie ended up killing her husband with Foxglove. But she was never a suspect because she was out-of-town visiting her (dead) mother and forcing a miscarriage for the baby she did not want.
Alice ended up pregnant after her secret IUD caused an ovarian cyst to rupture. Nate got a promotion on the other side of the country and was going to sell their house without telling Alice about it. The book ended with them still married and still living in their 1950s house on the East Coast.
