It was Mac, Layla's husband, who had Jack killed.    Mac had a one-night stand with an old college friend of Jacks.  She was blackmailing Mac.   He had her killed  Jack figured it out and Mac killed him, too.

    Under My Skin - I am almost through this entire book - who the hell is "Tom"? All of a sudden, here he is, in the cabin with the babes and the batshit crazy "friend" "murderer".
