The big twist is that after Noah is convicted of Anna's murder and they both are settling into a new "normal" Maggie gets a call from Anna's school therapist saying that the woman pictured in the news article about the murder and trial was not the real Anna.
It turns out that Anna got caught up with a local townie who had connections to a human sex traffic ring. Her "friend" PG got Anna caught up in the trafficking and then took over her life because she knew that Anna was about to inherit millions of dollars. The police and FBI got involved and found the real Anna (and other missing teen girls) being held in a farmhouse. Noah got out of prison and they all lived happily ever after.
